Broadcast Reels

These are all of my professional broadcasting reels from 2022 up until August 2023. With all of my stories, I make it my mission to come off as personable and direct to my respective community.

This is my reel from my work as an MSJ over the years as a student journalist. My hands-on experience allowed me to find my voice, learn more about the stories I want to tell, and continue to be a resource to whatever community I'm in. Working diligently in newsrooms ranging from local to network level, I've been able to successfully adapt and grow, while also maintaining my uniqueness in such an invigorating time in the journalism world. Post-graduation, I hope to migrate into a newsroom that's forward-thinking, direct, and fosters a community that I know will help me continue down my path as a multi-skilled journalist.

My Process

Before all of my shifts, I'll spend the week combing through community websites and forums finding tips on stories. If I cannot find pitches this way, I'll find some national stories or larger issues and find a way to localize them to the community. After finding two or three adequate pitches, I'll present them on the day of my shift at the meeting. I always come to every shift prepared and have made relevant developments on each story. If one of the stories I pitched is of interest for the day, I move forward with it. If none of my stories are relevant for the day, I make it an effort to vigorously investigate another story I can report on. After finding my story and angle for the day, I find sources and set interviews that coincide with my deadlines. In doing this, I make sure I have ample time to get what I need done and make the necessary corrections before it goes on air. A lot of the work that I do at this point is multi-skilled journalism, which requires me to be efficient with camera work, scriptwriting, and much more. After I get everything prepared for my story, I focus on my appearance and my delivery. I'll read all of my scripts out loud and make sure I am conversational enough for my audience. I'll also ensure I am looking kempt and presenting myself professionally. After I present my story, I'll keep my critiques in mind and write down outside critiques. I'll compile everything and reflect on how I can do better for my next shift.
